Scrap Bag of my Mind

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

What do pumpkins, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, trees, lanterns, mason jars, burlap, stacks of books, teal and orange, cellophane wrappers, honey, foxes, and a diamond all have in common? These things and a million more are running through my mind all day long.

Answer me if you can. :-)

Angry All the Time

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Why are these people angry all the time?

Maybe an obvious clue as to the Afghan’s stubborn resistance and retaliation to our military efforts would possibly be that we’re occupying their country unconstitutionally, and killing their civilians by the scores. No wonder Afghans are having a hard time believing that NATO and the U.S. Military are there to protect them, and are rejecting the “democracy” and freedom that’s being forced on them.

Of course, this latest airstrike doesn’t hold a candle to one that occurred in August ‘08 where 90 civilians, 60 of which were children, met their end.

Let’s just chalk it up to the cost of war. Apologies all around.

Discernment

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I’ve grown sick of hearing the names of Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, and all the rest of their ilk, being touted as great conservative heroes of today… a few daily doses of Lew Rockwell, and you’ll pretty quickly start to recognize a bloodthirsty, Fascist, Neo-Conservative the next time you see or hear one, as they try to ride on the coattails of the Tea Parties, and try to whip up the so-called “Conservative Movement.” Here’s an easy rundown list for identifying a Neo-Conservative — A Neo-Conservative only differs from true liberals insofar as he is on the right side of the left instead of being on the left, according to Bret.

A Cat and a Fiddle

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I know what I’m going to be watching tonight… the “biggest” full moon of the year, with Mars on the left side of the moon. I will try to post any pictures I get of it!

This picture is one of many “moon shots” I’ve attempted. Adjusting the ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and metering mode can be tricky when doing night shots.

Bones in Your Closet

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

How does one deal with old ghosts?

Stuff them in chinks in the wall to keep the cold winter away?

Pour kerosene on a pile of them, then toss on a match?

Set them up in chairs around the house, and give them books to read, like they were just part of the furnishings?

Pretend that they aren’t there, glaring at you with bloodshot eyes, breathing heavily on your neck?

Flaunt them by introducing them to people, patting them on the back, and calling them, “old friends”?

Offer them a cold beer, and commiserate over old memories together?

You wish you could escape them, but you can’t. No matter where you go you’ll always be collecting new ghosts, that will turn into vintage ghosts quickly enough.

It’s not hopeless, even if you’ll never be able to brush all the last, wispy ghost shreds off your clothes. Remember, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Happy New Year, and don’t fear old ghosts, or the new ones to come — our Lord is sovereign over all.

Paint Musings

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Touching up the first coat of paint on my newly acquired bedroom walls, I wondered: Is there someone in the world, a fellow soul, who is also painting their room today, at a different location on the globe?

And if this fellow soul is painting their room today, could they be painting it at the same crazy hour of 11p.m. like I am?

And if this fellow soul is painting their room today at the crazy hour of 11p.m., could they be painting it the same color I am?

And if this fellow soul is painting their room today at the crazy hour of 11p.m. in the same color I am, would they also finish the last brushstroke at the same time as me?

And if this fellow soul is painting their room today at the crazy hour of 11p.m. in the same color I am, finishing the last brushstroke at the moment in time I finished mine, would they look up and realize it was raining outside, then look down at their paint tray, rollers, and brush that they had to still wash, like I did?

And if this fellow soul is painting their room today at the crazy hour of 11p.m. in the same color I am, finishing the last brushstroke at the moment in time I finished mine, looking up and realizing that they had to wash their paint tray, rollers, and brushes, would they make a mad dash outside in the rain, at night, to run cold hose water over the paint tools like I did?

And if this crazy fellow is painting their room today at the crazy hour of 11p.m. in the same color I am, finishing the last brushstroke at the moment in time I finished mine, looking up and realizing that they had to wash their paint tray, rollers, and brushes, making a mad dash outside in the rain at night to run cold water over their paint tools, then coming back inside, would they suddenly feel tiredness grasp their bones and make them want to fall asleep, like I want to do now that there is a fresh coat of paint on the walls?

Touchdown

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially 300 feet from the runway with our wheels down, and the flaps up — the stewardesses are making a double check through the cabin to ensure that all items are stowed away; we ask that all passengers remain seated with their seat belts fastened. Please hold tight as the wheels touch down, and the pilot reduces power. Thank you for choosing to fly with Layered Logic.

Pigs Have Wings

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Since it’s your “patriotic duty” maybe it will make you a little more willing to bare your arm to take the Swine Flu Vaccine this fall. Oh, the irony of it all. Everything becomes acceptable when it is labeled as a “patriotic duty.”

Or not. I wouldn’t trust too many medical decisions our Federal Government makes.

Kopechne Care

Read more from Gary DeMar on the atrocity and ridiculousness of trying to pass a horrendous healthcare bill in memory of Ted Kennedy. Call It Kopechne Care.

Dead as a Doornail

Monday, August 31st, 2009

…. And they want to pass a healthcare bill in memory of this murderer?

Get real; Ted Kennedy was a horrible, despicable man all his life who should’ve been convicted on many different charges for what he did that night in Chappaquiddick.
